What to Do If a Workflow Step is Stuck or Has an Error
Step is pending but not progressing
- Go to Admin → Instances and find the workflow instance
- Open the detail panel — the current step shows the assignee
- If the assignee was deactivated, their tasks will need to be reassigned
- Go to Users → (the user's profile) → Reassign pending tasks
Workflow is in Error status
An error usually means a step could not be assigned. Common causes:
- The assigned user was deactivated
- An assignee rule points to an empty department
- A fixed-email assignee was removed from the workspace
To investigate:
- Go to Admin → Instances
- Open the errored instance
- The event log at the bottom shows the error description
Fix the underlying issue, then re-trigger a fresh instance.
